Berkeley Co. Coroner: A pedestrian and bicyclist killed less than an hour apart

ambulance BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C.—According to Berkeley Co. Coroner Bill Salisbury, 49-year-old Edward Williams was struck by three cars on Highway 17-A near South Live Oak Drive in the Moncks Corner area.

Salisbury said the accident happened at 6:45 p.m. on Thursday. Williams was pronounced dead by Deputy Coroner Darnell Hartwell.

His death was ruled accidental with the cause being massive body trauma.

Less than an hour later, the coroner’s office responded to a separate fatality on Liberty Hall Road near Lindy Creek Road in Goose Creek.

Salisbury stated that at 7:23 p.m., 55-year-old Matthew Link was riding his bicycle when he was struck by a vehicle.

The coroner stated that he was changing lanes when he was struck.

He was transported to Trident Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

His death was ruled accidental by Deputy Coroner Darnell Hartwell.

Both accidents were investigated by The Berkeley County Coroner’s Office and The South Carolina Highway Patrol.
