BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C.—According to the South Carolina Attorney General’s Office, a Florence man has been arrested on multiple counts of sexual exploitation of a minor.
Jonathan Michael McKenzie, 20, was charged with 20 counts of second degree sexual exploitation of a minor on December 22nd by the Florence County Sheriff’s Office.
Mark Powell, a spokesperson for the attorney general’s office, says it was investigators at the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office that tipped authorities in the Pee Dee off.
Officials say Berkeley Co. detectives were able to confirm that images depicting children engaged in sexual activity or in states of explicit nudity were downloaded through peer-to-peer file sharing to a computer traced to McKenzie’s address.
Florence Co. sheriff deputies then conducted a search warrant and computer equipment was seized for examination, according to a news release.
If found guilty, McKenzie could face up to 10 years in jail on each count.
McKenzie’s bond was set at $5,000 in Florence County.
