MONCKS CORNER, SC – Berkeley County Supervisor Bill Peagler has named County Council Finance Committee Chairman Tim Callanan (R-Daniel Island) the new Deputy Supervisor of Finance.
Callanan will resign his council post and join Peagler’s administration effective at noon on Tuesday.
Callanan, who has worked in the financial industry in New York City and Charleston, will supervise the areas of Finance, Purchasing, Human Resources, IT and GIS for the county in his new role.
“I am humbled and honored that Supervisor Peagler will appoint me to this position and that I can continue to serve Berkeley County in an even greater capacity,” said Callanan. “I look forward to working with Supervisor Peagler and the rest of the
administration to make county government more efficient and cost-effective.”
Peagler stated that Callanan’s knowledge of the county’s finances and experience will be a tremendous addition to his new administration.
“Mr. Callanan also shares my goals of improving Berkeley County’s economy, education, quality of life and trust in government; and I trust him to work daily to accomplish these goals,” he said.
There will be a special election held for Callanan’s council seat.
Callanan has served on Berkeley County Council since June 2007.

The hiring of Callanan comes after Peagler added six other employees to his administration last week. Salary comparisons from the Berkeley County Human Resources office shows the seven replacements will save taxpayers over $30,000 per year, according to the new county supervisor.
“I am committed to saving Berkeley County taxpayers money without sacrificing the quality of service we provide,” said Peagler. “This team of very accomplished and respected professionals will serve Berkeley County extremely well. And, I will continue to look for ways to save tax dollars.”
