BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C.–The Berkeley Co. Coroner’s Office has released its annual report for 2014. The results are listed below:
2014 Deaths:
Natural: 724
Suicide: 24
Accidental: 32 (Most were accidental overdose.)
Traffic deaths: 39
Drowning: 3
Homicide: 14
Assisting Coroners from other counties: 17
Pending investigations: 9 (Most are waiting results from autopsies and toxicology.)
Undetermined: 2 (Both are infant deaths and were investigated by the Coroner, local police and SLED child death investigator.)
According to Berkeley Co. Coroner Bill Salisbury, his office investigated 864 deaths in 2014.
“We saw an increase in natural, accidental, traffic, drowning, and homicide deaths last year,” Salisbury stated.
In 2013, the coroner’s office investigated 828 cases.
“Each year our total deaths increase,” he added.
