The first annual Tri-county Literary Expo will kick off this Saturday, February 7, 2015, in Dean Hall at Cypress Gardens from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., and is free to the public.
Authors from around the Lowcountry will be present to discuss, sell and sign their books and professional storytellers and puppeteers from the Berkeley Center of the Arts will perform during the Expo. Shrimp and grits, Beaufort Boil, Chicken Bog and other traditional Lowcountry foods will be available as well.
The Berkeley Reads month long program also includes a writing contest, Berkeley Writes!, for K-12 writers in Berkeley County School District. There will be a separate writing contest for adult creative writers.
Student winners will be invited to attend a workshop taught by authors Bret Lott, Nicole Seitz and Christi Sanford on Saturday, March 28 from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at Hanahan High School. Brett Lott and Nicole Seitz will teach the workshop for adult winners on the same day from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. The top three writers from each division will be recognized on the day of the workshops.
The Berkeley Reads program is sponsored by the Friends of the Berkeley County Library in conjunction with the Berkeley County Library System and the Berkeley County School District.
The purpose of the program is to encourage the community to read one or more books and attend special events and book discussions at local libraries.
