BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C.–One little girl is bringing out the good in Berkeley County by encouraging others to perform random acts of kindness this coming Saturday.
Unfortunately, the sad part is she’s not physically here to see it all in action.
However, her mom, Kelly DeHay, knows she’s smiling down from heaven.
“That’s just how Kasey was. She was outgoing and loving and wasn’t shy at all. She’d LOVE this,” stated DeHay.
In October 2007, Kasey’s young life was taken after a drunk driver hit her and her mom’s car less than a mile from their home. She was only 3-years-old.
“Ever since I lost Kacey, I’ve wanted to work with the community and save people from what we’re going through,” stated DeHay. “When a mother loses a child, it’s like you’re losing a piece of you.”
This Saturday, Kasey would have turned 11-years-old. In honor of her memory, DeHay created a Facebook event encouraging people to perform a “ROAK” or random act of kindness.
“By performing a RAOK, Kasey’s memory can touch lives and make people smile,” DeHay wrote on the event’s page.
‘Your RAOK could be taping quarters to a prize machine, buying someone’s coffee at the coffee shop, or as big as buying someone’s groceries. Get creative!”
Within 24 hours of launching the event, almost 700 people have signed up to take part and many more are expected to. DeHay says she’s been overwhelmed by the participation so far from the community.
“It’s as if people were waiting to show their love to someone else,” explained DeHay. “So many people are sharing this and remembering sweet Kasey in the best possible way ever- by bringing a smile to a stranger’s face.”

“Please post it and let me know what you did,” stated DeHay. “This helps me not to be so sad on her birthday.”
