‘Shuckin’ in the Park’ Oyster Roast Set For March 14th At Old Santee Canal Park

2015OysterLogoMONCKS CORNER, S.C.–The 16th annual Shuckin’ in the Park Oyster Roast is Saturday, March 14, from noon to 6 p.m. at Old Santee Canal Park in Moncks Corner.

In addition to oysters, this briny feast will feature activities for children, including a free jump castle, and live entertainment from Customs 4 and Friends, whose blend of beach music, oldies and popular music has made them a local favorite. This year also features the inaugural Shuckin’ in the Park Cornhole Tournament. Tournament registration begins at 1:30 p.m. and the cost is $10 per team. Teams of two will compete for prizes that include buckets of oysters, T-shirts and oyster knives.

Even if oysters aren’t your cup of brine, there will be hamburgers, hot dogs and the famous Shuckin’ fish stew for sale. Visitors also can explore the natural beauty of the historic park, nestled within the backwaters of Biggin Creek, or tour the park’s interpretive center. Small coolers are allowed, but visitors are asked to keep their pets and golf carts at home.

Again this year, 100 percent of Shuckin’ in the Park’s electricity needs will be powered by renewable Green Power from Santee Cooper.

Admission is $3 in advance and $5 at the gate the day of the event. Children 12 and under are admitted free. Buckets of oysters are $10 and serving begins at 1 p.m. Advance tickets went on sale Feb. 23 at Old Santee Canal Park, 900 Stony Landing Road, Moncks Corner. Cash, check and credit cards are now accepted. For more information, call the park at 843-899-5200 or visit www.oldsanteecanalpark.org.
