MONCKS CORNER, SC – Berkeley County Supervisor Bill Peagler will officially name the month of April 2015 as Child Abuse Prevention Month in Berkeley County through a proclamation at the March 23, 2015 County Council meeting.
Peagler will present the proclamation to Dr. Jane Pulling, a Board Member of the Children’s Trust of South Carolina.
“Berkeley County Council and Berkeley County government are committed to raising awareness of child abuse and neglect – complex and ongoing problems in our society that affect some children in our county,” said Peagler. “We believe strongly that every adult who comes in contact with a child has the responsibility to protect that child’s inalienable right to a safe and nurturing childhood. And, we are thankful for and encourage more, effective child abuse prevention programs. These programs succeed because of partnerships among families, social service agencies, schools, religious organizations, civic organizations, law enforcement agencies and the business community.”
Berkeley County will also “plant” a pinwheel garden in front of the county government building on U. S. 52 to commemorate Child Abuse Prevention Month. Dr. Pulling will speak at the council meeting about the pinwheel garden and share ways the public can also get involved in raising awareness of child abuse.
“Pinwheels represent healthy, happy childhoods,” said Dr. Pulling. “Pinwheels are an uplifting symbol used to draw attention from the problems of abuse and neglect to the solution of effective prevention.”
