On the heels of wintry storms that hit the Southeast two weeks ago, many Carolinians are headed for sunny destinations, according to AAA Carolinas.

Warm vacation getaways offering fun-filled activities for families will experience a large stream of travelers this spring season.

AAA Carolinas top domestic destinations requested by members for spring travel are:

  1. Orlando, Fla.
  2. Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.
  3. Honolulu, Hawaii
  4. Charleston, S.C.
  5. Washington, D.C.

AAA Carolinas top international destinations requested by members for spring travel are:

  1. Cancun
  2. Bermuda
  3. Amsterdam
  4. Rome
  5. Dominican Republic

“It’s no surprise that travelers are seeking warm weather vacation spots after experiencing a cold February in the Carolinas,” said Sarah Henshall, Senior Vice President of Travel and Branch Operations at AAA Carolinas. “While domestic travel to destinations including Florida are always desirable, international vacation packages to the Caribbean and Europe are also very popular this spring.”

Theme parks continue to be sought-after vacation choices, as evidenced by Orlando taking the top spot on this year’s list. However, Carolinians don’t have to venture far for the thrills and adventures of an amusement park. Located 15 minutes from uptown Charlotte off Interstate 77 at the North Carolina/South Carolina border, Carowinds has a new attraction this spring with the opening of Fury 325 on March 28. It’s the tallest and fastest giga coaster, climbing 325 feet and topping out at a speed of 95 miles per hour.

Whether motorists are heading to a theme park or their next vacation spot, AAA Carolinas top driving destinations for members traveling in the Carolinas are:

  1. Charlotte, N.C.
  2. Myrtle Beach, S.C.
  3. Wilmington, N.C.
  4. Charleston, S.C.
  5. Greenville, S.C.

While traveling through the Carolinas, vacationers will be paying higher prices at the pump than they did a month ago. However, motorists in both North and South Carolina are paying about a dollar less for a tank of fuel than they did last spring.

To maximize a spring break vacation, AAA recommends travelers seek the expert advice of a trusted travel agent who can provide personalized service and first-hand destination knowledge to create a memorable vacation experience.

AAA Carolinas’ travel agency is the largest full-service agency in the Carolinas, serving more than 490,000 customers a year, with 30 offices in North Carolina and 10 in South Carolina. A full listing of offices can be found at www.AAA.com/offices.
