Goose Creek Police Chief Calls On Community To Participate In Bike-A-Thon, Event To Raise Money For Cancer Research

bike race1GOOSE CREEK, S.C.–Goose Creek Police Chief Harvey Becker today called on all Goose Creek area residents to join the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital “Making a Difference for St. Jude” Bike-A-Thon slated for Saturday, April 11th, beginning at 9:00 a.m. at the lake and hiker-biker trail behind Goose Creek City Hall.

Riders are needed for this Bike-A-Thon to raise funds for the world-famous research center in its battle against childhood cancer and other catastrophic childhood diseases.  “We’re looking for riders of all ages who will contribute their time and talent to help children live.  We really need lots of riders, since they are the ones who can make this Bike-A-Thon successful,” Becker said.

In the “Making a Difference for St. Jude” Bike-A-Thon, riders ask sponsors to make a donation based on each mile completed.  Riders who raise $35 will receive a St. Jude T-shirt.  Those who raise $75 will receive a St. Jude Sling Tote.  Riders who raise $150 or more receive a St. Jude On-the-Go Blanket.  Prizes are cumulative.  “The real prize, though, is the pride everyone can take in giving children a chance to live a normal life,” Becker said.

Since the hospital opened in 1962 close to one hundred and fifty children and families from South Carolina have received treatment from St. Jude.  Currently, more than forty children from South Carolina are receiving treatment from St. Jude.

Contact Chief Becker at 863-5200 ext. 2309 for details on riding, sponsoring a rider or making a donation.  Rider sponsor forms are available at the Goose Creek Police Department or the City’s website at www.cityofgoosecreek.com.

St. Jude Hospital was founded by the late Danny Thomas, and operates primarily from public support.  Visit www.stjude.org for more information.
