BERKELEY COUNTY– Stratford High School Senior, TJ Deveaux, won his second consecutive state wrestling championship.
Deveaux participated in the state competition at the end of February at the Civic Center of Anderson. He wrestled one match on Friday and two on Saturday.
He won the Finals match 8-3 to conclude his senior season overall record 38-1 and in-state record 34-0. Deveaux completes his high school wrestling career with a 125-9 record.
“It was a major accomplishment for me! I’ve been wrestling since I was in third grade and now that I’m a two-timer, it means a lot,” said Deveaux.
Deveaux also was selected for the North South All-Star competition that was in North Myrtle Beach at the beginning of March. He won both of his matches there as well.
Stratford High School’s Head Wrestling Coach, Willis Nearhood, said, “It has been really exciting for me to watch TJ grow and develop into our first two-time, in-state undefeated state champion. He started in our feeder program, the Crowfield Takedown Club, when he was in third grade and now he’s the state champion again.”
Deveaux would like to attend Coastal Carolina University for track and field. He said, he would be able to participate in track and field and pursue his passion, marine biology.
