MONCKS CORNER, S.C.–The town of Moncks Corner officially has a new mayor.
On Tuesday, Michael Lockliear was elected mayor, replacing Bill Peagler who took over as Berkeley County’s new supervisor in January.
Lockliear began serving as a member of town council in 2004 and served as Mayor Pro-Tem in 2014. In January of 2015, he began serving as the interim mayor of Moncks Corner.
During the election, he received 607 votes while Councilwoman Tonia Aiken received 314, according to the unofficial results.
The results will be officially certified on Thursday morning.
Locklier will serve in his new role until December 31st–the end of Peagler’s original term.
There will be a general election in November.
