BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C.–Authorities say a man is calling people on the phone and claiming to work in law enforcement.
According to the Berkeley Co. Sheriff’s Office, an unidentified man recently contacted a Berkeley County homeowner and identified himself as a “Brian Davis,” a member of the warrant division with the Berkeley Co. Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies say that the man told the homeowner that there was an existing warrant for their arrest for failure to appear for jury duty.
Davis told the homeowner that “the matter” could be resolved by agreeing to meet with him and pay a $875 fine in cash.
“The Warrants Division does not handle collecting fines for any criminal charges,” deputies stated.

The jury phone scam is a another example of different phishing attempt employed by scam artists to steal people’s personal information and use it for their own personal gain. Based on the complaints posted at Callercenter.com, scam artists use the information to apply for loans. They may also purchase items with your credit card. There were reports where the victim’s info was purportedly sold on the Internet’s black market so be careful with how you distribute personal information.
Lol!
