MONCKS CORNER, S.C. – The Santee Cooper Vector Management Program has announced the areas in its management control zone for this year’s seasonal mosquito spraying around lakes Marion and Moultrie.
Santee Cooper typically sprays around 60,000 acres annually by truck for adult mosquito control and about 300 acres for larval control in communities surrounding the Santee Cooper Lakes.
The chemicals used in spraying processes are EPA-approved and employees who spray are licensed by the S.C. Department of Pesticide Regulation.
Mosquitoes breed in standing water, and residents can decrease mosquito activity by eliminating potential breeding sites. Birdbath water should be changed each week and containers that hold water should be emptied or removed.
