BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C.–The Berkeley Co. Sheriff’s Office is warning homeowners to be on the lookout for a suspicious man approaching residents throughout the county and then asking to come inside to check on their “security system.”
On Thursday, deputies stated that a young white man wearing a black polo shirt with a GE emblem and a black ball cap and driving a small white vehicle possibly bearing Utah license plates, knocked on at least one door in the Sangaree community, claiming that he was getting a “low battery” message on the resident’s Home Security System.
He then told the homeowner that he was there to “check out the system.”
Fortunately, the homeowner was savvy enough to shut the door on the suspect and immediately followed up with their home alarm company.
Deputies are reminding residents that Home Security System employees will be in company vehicles, will have company identification, and will never be sent to a customers home just to check on a low battery alarm.
If you know of or witness any suspicious activity in your community you’re asked to notify the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office at 843-719-4412.
