GOOSE CREEK, S.C.–American Red Cross disaster-trained volunteers assisted a family whose home, located on Wisteria Road in Goose Creek, suffered major damage from a fire early Wednesday.
City of Goose Creek Fire Department responded to the blaze.
The Red Cross is meeting the immediate needs of two adults and five children by providing temporary housing, financial assistance for food, clothing, and infant supplies, and comfort kits, as well as referrals to partner agencies to assist with long-term recovery.
In South Carolina, the American Red Cross, on average, responds to a disaster every four hours.
Because of volunteers and financial assistance from the community, the Red Cross was able to help more than 7,000 individuals affected by disasters, the majority of those being home fires, in S.C. last year.
