BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C.–Six students from J.K. Gourdin Elementary School and three from Macedonia Middle School won Berkeley County Water & Sanitation’s (BCWS) Drinking Water Week Poster Contest.
Every year BCWS hosts a poster contest to celebrate water. The contest leads up to National Drinking Water Week, which is sponsored by the American Water Works Association.
The contest is open to students in Kindergarten through eighth grade in public, private or home schools.
Three winners are selected from three categories: K – 2nd, 3rd – 5th, and 6th – 8th grade. Category winners receive checks for $100 for first place, $75 for second place and $50 for third place.
Below are the first, second and third place winners for each category:
Kindergarten – 2nd Grade
1st Place: Malachi Milligan-Stafford (2nd Grader – J.K. Gourdin Elementary School)
2nd Place: Amiyah Gadsden (1st Grader – J.K. Gourdin Elementary School)
3rd Place: Jordan Jenkins (2nd Grader – J.K. Gourdin Elementary School)
3rd – 5th Grade
1st Place: Za’Narah Green (5th Grader – J.K. Gourdin Elementary School)
2nd Place: Kendra Milligan (5th Grader – J.K. Gourdin Elementary School)
3rd Place: Desmond Brown (5th Grader – J.K. Gourdin Elementary School)
6th – 8th Grade
1st Place: Juana Sanchez (7th Grader – Macedonia Middle School)
2nd Place: Destini Bartell (8th Grader – Macedonia Middle School)
3rd Place: Kyla French (7th Grader – Macedonia Middle School)
These students will be recognized for their awesome work and presented with their monetary prizes at the Berkeley County Council meeting this Monday, May 11, 2015, beginning at 6:30 p.m.
