The murder trial for a Berkeley County man and his wife will not start this Monday in Horry County after all.
Tammy and Sidney Moorer are both charged in connection with the disappearance of Heather Elvis.
The following was issued in a statement issued by the Horry County Solicitor’s Office:
“After a telephone conference with all parties, it was determined there is no need to have Motion Hearings the week of May 11 in State vs. Moorer.”
In December 2014, a May 11 trial date was scheduled.
The solicitor’s office requested more than 800 jurors for the upcoming trial.
WPDE-TV reached out to Greg McCollum, the attorney for Tammy Moorer, and Kirk Truslow, the attorney for Sidney Moorer, and neither were immediately available for comment.
Elvis was 20-years-old at the time when she vanished from Horry County in December 2013.
Investigators say they later determined that she had been killed at a boat landing in Socastee.
Horry County Police Chief Saundra Rhodes has stated previously that police found evidence inside the Moorers’ home and on their property during a search that gave them probable cause to charge them both with murder, kidnapping and obstruction of justice.
Sidney Moorer’s attorney has previously stated, however, that this case has snowballed into an “outrageous witch hunt with no real evidence.”
To this day, Elvis’ body has never been found.
A new trial date has yet to be scheduled.
Sidney Moorer previously attended Lord Berkeley Academy, now St. Johns Christian Academy, in Moncks Corner and reportedly still has family residing in the area.
