GOOSE CREEK, S.C.–Alligators are a pretty common sight in the lowcountry–especially here in Berkeley County.
What’s not so common is seeing one of these large reptiles taking a stroll through your neighborhood.
However, that’s exactly what some homeowners witnessed Thursday morning.
According to Goose Creek police, residents in The Hamlets subdivision had to share the sidewalk with the gator you see on your screen.
“If you see an alligator in your neighborhood, don’t approach or attempt to handle them on your own,” the police department posted on its official Facebook page. “Our animal control officers will respond and determine the best course of action in these situations.”
Captain John Grainger stated that DNR was notified as a courtesy; however, since the gator headed to a nearby pond, no action was taken.
Homeowners estimated that the gator was approximately 10 feet long.
