BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C.–One day after Lt. Will Rogers with the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office was critically wounded after being ambushed by an unknown shooter, State Law Enforcement Division agents have now released surveillance video from the scene.
The video appears to show the suspect walking in front of the Exxon Gas Station located at Highway 52 and Cypress Gardens Road, and then forcing a person out of a black SUV before pulling out of the parking space.
The video does not show the shooting of Rogers.
The veteran deputy remains at MUSC in critical but stable condition.
SLED agents say the case is no longer being treated as an officer-involved shooting but as the attempted
murder of a law enforcement officer.
Cypress Gardens remains shut down as multiple law enforcement agencies continue to look for the suspect.
A helicopter and bloodhounds are assisting in the search as well.
Authorities say the suspect is considered armed and dangerous.
They say the shooter also stands between 5’10” – 6’4″, weighs up to 225 pounds, was wearing a mask, white long sleeved shirt, and gray sweat pants with a white stripe. At this time, his race is unknown.
He was also seen carrying a maroon/red silk sack.
