BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C.–A GoFundMe account has been set up for Lt. Will Rogers, the veteran deputy who was recently shot in the back of the head while at the Exxon gas station on Cypress Gardens Road and Highway 52.

“Raising money to help Lt. Will Rogers’ family get through this rough time while he is recovering,” wrote Brooke Warren, the creator of the account. “Funds will go towards gas, food, and any way that we can help the family.”

The goal is to raise $2,000. In the last 24 hours, nine people have already donated, bringing the total to $400.

“Stay strong, brother. Push through, recover quickly, and make yourself stronger than before through trials presented to you,” wrote Robert Boris Jr. who donated $100.

Rogers still remains in critical but stable condition at MUSC in downtown Charleston. Over the weekend, he was taken off of a ventilator. County officials say he is also beginning to talk and recognize family members but still has a long road to recovery.

On Wednesday, the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office announced an $11,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the individual responsible for shooting Rogers.

“When the shooter shot Lt. Rogers, he just didn’t shoot a law enforcement officer. He shot a father and grandfather.  He shot a Marine vet. He shot a true public servant,” stated Rogers’ daughter, Jamie Wyatt during a press conference yesterday.

Investigators are treating the crime as the attempted murder of a law enforcement officer.

The person of interest in the case is described a a black male in his 20’s, 5-feet-10 to 5-feet-11 inches tall, weighing 150 to 170 pounds. The person’s hair has a reddish tint toward the forehead.

Anyone who knows or recognizes the individual depicted in this illustration should contact the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office at 843-719-4424, the S.C. Law Enforcement Division at 843-782-3822 or Crimestoppers at 1-888-CRIME SC.
