Via Press Release:
BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C.–Duane Lewis, Republican nominee for Berkeley County Sheriff, announced the formation of his Community Advisory Council today at the Hanahan Library.
“The people of Berkeley County want a Sheriff that can lead on day one. That is why I am announcing my Community Advisory Council today,” stated Lewis. “If the citizens honor me with their vote on Tuesday, June 9th, I’ll get to work for them on day one.”
The volunteer board will consists of community representatives from throughout the county and will meet monthly. County Councilman Ken Gunn, who chairs the Berkeley County Justice and Public Safety Committee, will represent County Council.
The board members will act as ambassadors between the Sheriff’s Office and citizens and will focus on building community relationships, increasing the quality of life for citizens, decreasing crime, and improving response times.
“Throughout this campaign, I’ve run on tackling Berkeley County’s drug problem, reducing our crime rate, improving response times, and community oriented policing,” stated Lewis. “By working together and coming up with innovative solutions, this Community Advisory Council will help achieve those goals and well help the Sheriff’s Office be responsive and accountable to our citizens.”
The following individuals will serve on the board:
Lisa Kerns (Cainhoy-Daniel Island), Michael Ramsey (Hanahan), Charlie Cox (Hanahan), Shelly Green (Goose Creek), Butch Watson (Moncks Corner), Richard and Jackie Keene (Bonneau Beach), Matt Hoover (Lebanon/New Hope), Willis Sanders (Summerville), Jamie Gibson (Summerville), David Shuler (Jamestown/Shulerville), Francis Wright (Coordsville), Walter Earley (Pringletown/Sandridge), Hercules Brown (Alvin), Phoebe Bradberry (Macedonia), and Darla Barnette (Russellville).
Your headline is incorrect. It is not a “Sheriff’s” Advisory Committee unless he is Sheriff. Also, are these citizen advisors available to the public? If they are supposed to be ambassadors and he wants to be ready on day one, shouldn’t they be receiving input from the community now?
