ST. STEPHEN, S.C.–St. Stephen Middle School partnered with SC Governor’s School for Math and Science through the ENGAGE Outreach program, sponsored by Google.

On May 11th, forty sixth and seventh grade students from St. Stephen Middle spent the day at the Governor’s School in Hartsville, presenting their 3-D models and entrepreneurship plans to a panel of judges consisting of Mr. Ted Behling from Google, Mr. Danny Dorsal, Vice-President of Academics, and Dr. Bhuvana, Biology Professor.

The ENGAGE judges used a “Shark Tank” model where students presented their entrepreneurship ideas with 3-D printed models and marketing strategies .

The judges then had to decide whether or not to invest in their product.  The Shark Tank judges awarded first place in the design challenge to the “Football All-Stars” consisting of students Jarrell Paige, Colby Carr, and Mariantonio Hubbard.

The winning student design was a 3-D prototype of a USB holder that would hold 4 USB drives and wirelessly connect to a computer so that all 4 USB drives could be accessed at once.

Through the ENGAGE model, the SC Governor’s School visited St. Stephen Middle two previous days where its teachers and students worked with the middle-schoolers to teach them about creating models, 3-D printing, Snap SCAD, and teambuilding.  St. Stephen Middle hopes to continue this partnership for years to come!
