GOOSE CREEK, S.C.—According to Goose Creek police, officers responded to the Walmart parking lot on St. James Avenue on Friday night after reports of shots fired in the Oak Creek Subdivision.
There, police say they encountered two men inside a vehicle, Dominque McConnell and Trey Law. Officers say the two men were seen leaving the subdivision earlier along Persimmon Circle after shots were fired.
Law reportedly told police that he and McConnell were attempting to sell some shoes when two black men tried to take the shoes without paying. The two claim they chased after them and, and McConnell was shot in the foot.
Police say that when they questioned McConnell, he told them a different story.
“I asked McConnell how he was shot and he advised he and Law were shopping for some items for a graduation party at Wal-Mart,” read the report. “McConnell advised he observed two black males messing with the above listed vehicle and that when confronted, the suspects ran. McConnell stated he and Law followed them into the neighborhood and one of the suspects shot him in the foot.”
While at the Walmart, officers say they searched the vehicle the two men were in and located a firearm and a bag of green leafy plant-like material in the back seat floor board in plain view.
“I looked into the backseat and observed a black handgun with blood on the handle and a clear plastic baggie of green leafy plant-like material,” read the report.
McConnell was transported to Trident Hospital for his injuries.
Police say he later admitted that he was actually shot during a “drug deal gone bad.”
Both men were arrested.
