Organizers Gear Up For 2015 Coonfest in Bonneau

coonfest3BONNEAU, S.C.— Bathing suits, beer and fun in the sun–three things folks have come to associate with Coonfest which gets underway on August 1st on Lake Moultrie.

“The estimated crowd last year was 6,000 to 7,000 people. I am sure this number will be greater this year,” stated Iain Hamilton, the event’s founder.

According to Hamilton, the huge social event will include live music, plenty of food vendors and lots of fun.

“The band this year is Bootless,” stated Hamilton.

Founded in 2009, Hamilton says he started Coonfest during a time when Berkeley County was struggling economically and Lake Moultrie appeared to be drying up. He says he saw the event as a way to boost the local economy.

“Since its inception six years ago, I had no doubt that hard work and persistence would make this event the best marine event in South Carolina,” Hamilton said.

This year the event will also include raffle prizes with the money raised going toward the Wounded Warrior Project, an organization that serves veterans and service members who’ve incurred a physical or mental injury, illness, or wound, co-incident while defending our country

This year Skyview aerial solutions are filming the event using drones.

The event is free to the public and paid for by sponsors.

“There are only two words to describe Coonfest: a blast!” described Hamilton.
