BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C. – Berkeley County Sheriff Duane Lewis announced today that a major weekend sweep ended with a significant number of arrests, seizures, warrants served and citations.
Sheriff Lewis coordinated efforts between the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office, the Goose Creek Police Department, the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED), the South Carolina Department of Probation, Parole and Pardon Services, the South Carolina Highway Patrol and the U. S. Marshals Service. Together, they conducted saturation patrols of the Goose Creek area for criminal activity and to locate wanted persons.
The results of the patrols include:
- 24 arrests, including 7 drug violation arrests
- Seizure of 5 pounds of marijuana
- 17 warrants served
- 9 alcohol establishment violations
- Seizure of 8 video poker machines
- 109 citations issued
- 42 warning citations issued
“My office is committed to getting drugs off the streets and putting criminals behind bars,” said Lewis. “I thank all of the agencies involved for their efforts. This weekend’s efforts come from not only my commitment to making our communities safer, but also in response to the public’s desire for a greater law enforcement presence in this area. This will be the first of many sweeps throughout Berkeley County in the coming weeks and months.”
