BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C.–American Red Cross disaster-trained volunteers say they are assisting a family of six whose mobile home, located on Highway 402 in Cordesville, was destroyed by a fire today.
Cordesville Fire Department, as well as several other agencies, responded to the blaze.
The Red Cross is meeting the immediate needs of four adults and two children by providing temporary housing, financial assistance for food and clothes, and a comfort kit, as well as referrals to partner agencies to assist with long-term recovery.
In South Carolina, the American Red Cross, on average, responds to a disaster every four hours. Because of volunteers and financial assistance from the community, the Red Cross was able to help more than 7,100 individuals affected by disasters, the majority of those being home fires, in S.C. last year.
