MONCKS CORNER, S.C. – Berkeley County Council passed Supervisor Bill Peagler’s amended County Government budget tonight by a vote of 7-1, with Councilman Jack Schurlknight being the only dissenting vote.
Council also unanimously passed Supervisor Peagler’s amended Berkeley County Water and Sanitation budget.
“I am thankful for the strong majority of County Council members, who stood with me to make the necessary investments in public safety and emergency services,” said Supervisor Peagler. “We increased services without increasing taxes – that is something county residents can be very proud of.”
The county government budget does not include a millage rate increase, which means Berkeley County now has the lowest county government millage rate in the entire state.
The county government budget includes four new sheriff’s office patrol deputies, eight new detention center officers and four new EMS technicians.
The county government budget also includes the first county employee merit pay increase in six years.
The Berkeley County Water and Sanitation budget does not include any residential rate increases.
