MONCKS CORNER, S.C. – Berkeley County Sheriff Duane Lewis announced this morning the arrest of 19-year-old Jamez Deondre Kelly of North Charleston for the July 24th shooting in Moncks Corner, in which three people were shot including two juveniles.
The July 24th shooting on Nelson Ferry Road occurred following a birthday party at a residence on Mitton Road in the Moncks Corner area of Berkeley County.
As the victims left the party and walked down Nelson Ferry Road, a red four-door Honda drove down Nelson Ferry Road and opened fire on the victims.
Kelly was positively identified by two of the three shooting victims and a manhunt ensued. Kelly was located at Hidden Oak Apartments on Otranto Road in North Charleston by Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office deputies, U.S. Marshals Fugitive Apprehension Task Force agents, and North Charleston Police Department officers.
The North Charleston Police Department also had an active arrest warrant on Kelly for armed robbery. Two handguns were seized and a second juvenile was arrested on unrelated weapons charges during the arrest.
The victims from the July 24th shooting are expected to fully recover from their wounds.
Kelly is being charged with three counts of Attempted Murder, three counts of Possession of a Weapon during a Violent Crime and one count of Criminal Conspiracy.
“I am thankful for the tireless work of the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office detectives and the Marshals Task Force in making this apprehension,” said Sheriff Lewis. “Along with the U.S. Marshalls and the North Charleston Police Department, we had a true team effort – working around the clock since Saturday to put this alleged dangerous criminal behind bars very quickly. We hope to announce additional arrests in this case soon.”
