BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C.–Berkeley County Sheriff Duane Lewis announced that three people have been arrested following a murder early Sunday morning at the Kangaroo gas station on North Main Street in Summerville.
According to Berkeley County Spokesperson Michael Mule, deputies responded to a shooting at the Kangaroo gas station at 1571 North Main Street in the Summerville area of Berkeley County just after 2:00 a.m. this morning.
Deputies arrived to find a white male, later identified by the Berkeley County Coroner as 51-year-old Luther W. Cribb, III of Ladson, had been shot in the parking lot. Cribb was transported to the hospital and subsequently succumbed to his wounds, Mule stated.
Using information from witnesses and video surveillance, Mule says detectives established that an altercation occurred in the parking lot of the Kangaroo between Cribb and at least two other individuals. Detectives were able to quickly identify the vehicle used to transport the suspects in the shooting and a BOLO was issued to local law enforcement agencies.
An alert Trident Technical College Public Safety Officer observed the vehicle in the area of Tipson Street in North Charleston and notified authorities. Officers with the North Charleston Police Department as well as deputies from the Charleston and Berkeley County Sheriff’s Offices responded and apprehended the occupants of the vehicle.
The driver of the vehicle, 32-year-old Marquez Jorome Brown of North Charleston, has been arrested and charged with Accessory After the Fact of Murder. A passenger in the vehicle, 26-year-old Davon Washington, has been arrested and charged with Murder.
Another passenger in the vehicle, 35-year-old Ramon Gamble, was arrested on unrelated charges and is being questioned in connection with the murder. A fourth individual is being sought for questioning in connection with the murder.
“While this is an ongoing investigation I am proud of our Office’s work to quickly apprehend suspects in this murder,” said Sheriff Lewis. “Our Office will provide additional information as it becomes available.”
