HANAHAN, S.C.–The City of Hanahan has a new police chief. Hanahan City Council has announced that Dennis Turner has been given the title.
Chief Turner will replace Michael Cochran who served as the city’s police chief from November 2011 until July 2015 and now serves as Chief Deputy for the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office.
The city received approximately 35 applications for the position with four finalists being interviewed by city council on 8/12 and 8/13.
According to city officials, Turner has been a police officer in the City of Hanahan for the past 17 years rising through the ranks of corporal, sergeant, detective sergeant and lieutenant.
The finalists for the position were:
1 – Lt. Dennis Turner, City of Hanahan Police Department (SC)
2 – Lt. Michael Fowler, City of Hanahan Police Department (SC)
3 – Lt. David Plesich, Hilliard Ohio Division of Police (Ohio)
4 – Asst. Patrol District Commander Mark Beach, Metropolitan Police Department (Maryland)
