Berkeley County Sheriff Office Sweep In County’s Northern End Nets 50 Arrests

berkeley county sheriff deputy car MONCKS CORNER, S.C. – Sheriff Duane Lewis announced today that his office made 50 arrests during a multi-agency sweep that included criminal saturation patrols, drug investigations, warrant sweeps and compliance checks at various bars in Berkeley County’s northern end last week.

The sweep took place in the Macedonia, Cordesville, Jamestown, Shulerville, Alvin, Saint Stephen, Bonneau, Moncks Corner and Cross areas of Berkeley County on Thursday, September 17th and Friday, September 18th.

Working with members of the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office were members of the South Carolina Highway Patrol’s Target Zero Task Force, U.S. Marshals Service Task Force, South Carolina Law Enforcement Division, South Carolina Probation and Parole, Goose Creek Police Department, Bonneau Police Department, St. Stephen Police Department and South Carolina Department of Natural Resources.

The results of the operation were 50 arrests that include:

  • 25 for Warrants
  • 14 for Drug Charges including:
  • 4 Felony Drug Charges – Possession of Schedule II Narcotics, Possession of Methamphetamine with the Intent to Distribute, Possession with Intent to Distribute Marijuana, and Possession of Cocaine Base
  • 10 Simple Possessions of Marijuana
  •  1 for Felony Weapons Charge – Unlawful Carrying of a Firearms
  • 3 for DUI
  • 6 for Miscellaneous Criminal Arrest Charges

“With only 100 days under my belt as Sheriff, I am proud to say that the relationships we have built with the public continue to help our Office fight crime in communities across Berkeley County,” said Sheriff Lewis. “The public has been doing a tremendous job of notifying us of trouble areas, and our deputies and law enforcement partners are working extremely hard to resolve the issues. This sweep shows the public we are particularly focused on fighting back against criminals and drug dealers and making our county a safer place to live, work and raise a family.”

There were over 75 officers working the operation each night.
