NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C.–North Charleston police and the United States Navy are searching for a 19-year-old sailor who is reportedly missing.
On the morning of Friday, September 18, 2015, 19 year old Vincent Ferdin left his apartment in Goose Creek and seemingly vanished, authorities say.
On September 21, 2015 the U.S. Navy called Rena Ferdin, Vincent’s mother, to report that her son was missing.
Both the local authorities and the Navy have launched investigations to determine Vincent’s whereabouts.
According to investigators, Ferdin was last seen leaving his girlfriend’s home in Ladson at 7:30 a.m. on Friday, September 18.
His roommate reportedly told authorities that he left their home in Goose Creek at around midnight Friday to go to her house and he did not take his wallet or military ID with him. He was riding his bicycle.
Vincent Ferdin is 19 years old, Hispanic, 5 feet 6 inches tall and 170 pounds. He has brown hair and brown eyes. When Ferdin did not report to duty the Navy contacted his mother and launched an investigation, The North Charleston Police are investigating as well.
There is no information regarding Ferdin’s whereabouts. His mother, friends, family, and authorities have not been able to reach him and it does not appear that he has attempted to make contact with anyone.
Police say that his cell phone has been turned off. Ferdin does not have any family in or around Charleston and his only known mode of transportation is his bicycle.
A WordPress site and Facebook page have been launched in an effort to form a grassroots movement and find Vincent Ferdin. Social media users are asked to use the hashtag #FindingFerdin when posting and sharing content related to the search. Several Navy and military social media groups are actively circulating the information as well as the public.
A GoFundMe account has also been set up to help offset some of the expenses Ferdin’s family is incurring. They traveled to Goose Creek to assist in the investigation.
