BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C.–During the early morning hours of September 29th, Berkeley County deputies say they responded to a rash of motor vehicle break-ins at Wind Gate Mobile Home Park off Myers Road in the Summerville area.
Once on scene, deputies discovered four vehicles had been broken into. They immediately began searching the area for suspects.
According to authorities, deputies witnessed Johnathan Dillon Waltz, 21, of College Park Road attempting to break into another vehicle located in the same area.
Waltz reportedly tried to flee the scene on foot, but deputies say they chased after him.
Waltz was eventually caught and arrested.
Deputies say he is being charged with four counts of breaking into a motor vehicle and one count of evading arrest.
Berkeley County Sheriff Duane Lewis said, “Crimes like these strike at the very heart of our communities and neighborhoods and disrupt citizens’ lives. They will be the target of our newly formed Community Action Team (CAT). Working together with the citizens in our communities and neighborhoods, we will make a difference and enhance the quality of life for all the citizens of Berkeley County.”
Sheriff Lewis also said he wanted to remind citizens of the importance of locking their vehicles and keeping valuables out of plan view.
