BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C.—According to the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division, Jennifer Lee Scott, 43, of Ladson has been charged with assault and battery in the second degree, a misdemeanor.
SLED agents say Scott is a former nurse at the Hill Finklea Detention Center in Moncks Corner.
According to the affidavit, in May 2013, Randall Ford, an inmate at the Hill Finklea Detention Center, witnessed Scott provide contraband to an inmate. Agents say Scott was providing sandwiches to inmates as they took their medications.
Scott reportedly gave Ford a sandwich meant for another inmate that contained cigarettes, a cigarette lighter, a baggie containing pills and a baggie containing a white powder like substance.
Agents say Scott grabbed the sandwich back from Ford and gave it to another inmate.
A few days later, Ford is said to have suffered from chest pains and was sent to Scott to be examined. While conducting an examination of Ford’s vital signs, Scott allegedly reached inside of Ford’s inmate issued uniform and placed her hands in his genital area.
The affidavit claims Scott asked Ford, “Is there anything I can do to make you forget about what happened the other night?”
Ford is said to have asked the nurse to remove her hands. That’s when Scott reportedly inflicted pain to his lower region.
Scott has been booked into the Berkeley County detention center, SLED agents say.
The case was investigated by SLED at the request of the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office and will be prosecuted by the Ninth Circuit Solicitor’s Office.
If convicted, Scott could face up to three years in prison, a fine of up to $2,500 or both.
