BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C.–Following 120 hours of rain, the 100 flood evacuees staying at Moncks Corner United Methodist Church are in urgent need of towels and washcloths.
The Law Office of Michael David Wood, located at 1350 Ashley River Rd. Suite C, will serve as the collection point for new and used towels and washcloths. These donations will be accepted at their office Monday – Friday from 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.
The Red Cross has provided toiletry kits and enough pre-packaged meals to last the evacuees four days. However, there is an immediate need for any new or gently used bath towels and washcloths.
The rain ending on October 5 has left water as high as 18 inches still covering roadways and affecting citizens of South Carolina. In a press conference held Sunday, South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley stated, “We haven’t seen this level of rain in the Lowcountry in 1,000 years.”
Rains from Hurricane Joaquin have ceased, but water levels continue to rise and the state is preparing for a second wave of flooding.
Wood currently serves as the associate pastor at the Moncks Corner United Methodist Church. If anyone would like to make a financial donation, checks may be made out to Moncks Corner United Methodist Church. Additional needs, such as volunteers or more supplies, will be announced as information becomes available.
