HANAHAN, S.C.–The Hanahan Police Department is getting into the Halloween spirit a day early.
On Friday morning, the city’s newest Police Chief Dennis Turner along with Det. Breen and Det. Durant generated plenty of stares and smiles among parents and students at Hanahan Elementary prior to the start of class.
“The Halloween traffic control for Hanahan Elementary School was a big hit with the kids,” stated Berkeley County Chief Deputy Mike Cochran who snapped the photos. “Chief Dennis Turner, Det. Breen and Det. Durant were all in for the kids. Chief Turner was passing out candy for the parents thanking them for putting up with the traffic every morning. Great stuff.”
Turner was promoted to chief two months ago. He has been a police officer in the City of Hanahan for the past 17 years rising through the ranks of corporal, sergeant, detective sergeant and lieutenant.
While he’s used to wearing a uniform, the parents and kids got quite the kick out him and the other two officers getting into the Halloween spirit.
“Thanks Chief Turner for making the children happy,” wrote Angie Poole Moore. “You and your staff do an amazing job and I truly appreciate you. Thanks for all you do.”
“This is why our small city is special,” wrote Michael Ramsey. “There is no better place to raise a family than Hanahan!!!”
“They were awesome!!! My kids loved it!!” wrote Alicia Ruth.
According to Cochran, the tradition of officers dressing up started several years ago with Det. Amy Camp who first dawned a Super Woman outfit.
