MONCKS CORNER, S.C. – According to district officials, the Berkeley County School District hosted an AdvancED External Review Team from Sunday, November 1, 2015, through Wednesday, November 4, 2015.
The External Review Team found that BCSD met the requirements for accreditation, and will recommend to the AdvancED Accreditation Commission that BCSD earn the distinction of accreditation.
“We are very pleased with the AdvancED External Review Team’s findings. The findings validate Berkeley County School District’s success in serving students extremely well,” said Berkeley County School District Superintendent Brenda Blackburn.
During the visitation, the External Review Team, consisting of eight educators from across the nation, spent four days evaluating the district and its school improvement process. The comprehensive review process included interviews with members of the Berkeley County Board of Education, district officials, principals, district staff, parents and other members of the community. As part of the review, the team conducted 429 interviews and completed 89 classroom observations at 10 schools.
The team commended school leadership and staff for sharing a passion and commitment to sustain a culture of caring that promotes effective learning opportunities for all students. In addition, the External Review Team recommended that the district investigate, develop and implement strategies to monitor and evaluate the use of technology as an instructional tool.
“The External Review Team gave us pertinent and helpful recommendations. We will prepare for the future growth through systemic allocations of people, time and facilities,” said Blackburn.
