BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C.–On Christmas Eve, Berkeley County deputies and firefighters were doing more than just responding to calls. They were also giving big surprises to unsuspecting families and their children.

Several first responders spent a few hours in Berkeley County delivering dozens of wrapped presents to children with the hope of making their Christmas an even brighter one.

For one father of four battling cancer, he was beyond thankful for the kind gesture.

“Received presents for my family today from the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office, and I’m so grateful they cared to help me give my kids a Christmas. Thank you and God bless!” he posted on Twitter shortly after receiving the gifts.

In Sangaree, deputies and other first responders delivered more more than 40 gifts throughout the community.

“The parents were stunned and shocked, but you could see the excitement in their faces,” stated first responder, John Fehr. “To see a child smile and know that you must made an impact in their lives is the best part of Christmas for us.”

This is not the first time deputies made their patrol a little more special and unique during the holidays. In October, deputies also passed out candy during Halloween in several neighborhoods.

Last year, deputies conducted “Operation Stuffing.” During the Thanksgiving holiday, they delivered food baskets to nearly 60 families in need throughout Berkeley County.
