BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C.–Shortly after 1 p.m., Berkeley County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a call of a shot fired in the Sanctuary Park neighborhood of the Cane Bay Subdivision.
Upon arrival and after investigation, they say they discovered that a black male, approximately 6 feet tall, wearing a black hoodie and black pants with a white stripe and possibly carrying a grey bag, had forced his way through a window of a residence on Sanctuary Park Drive.
The homeowner was sleeping upstairs. While the suspect was in the process of burglarizing the house, the homeowner awoke and chased the suspect out of his house.
As the suspect was running from the house, he turned around and fired a weapon at the homeowner. The homeowner was not hit by the shot.
The Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office utilized a K9 search team of the area for the suspect. A few other agencies assisted in the search including the Goose Creek Police Department and the South Carolina Highway Patrol.
The K9 units followed a trail of the suspect to a nearby construction area, where it is believed the suspect had a getaway car waiting. A temporary school lockdown was lifted, after it was determined that the suspect left the area by vehicle.
Berkeley County Sheriff Duane Lewis asked for the public to provide assistance in the investigation.
“Our Office is working extremely hard to find this individual, and we ask for the public’s help in this search,” said Lewis. “If you have seen someone matching the suspect’s description, observed suspicious activity in the Cane Bay area around 1 p.m., and/or know information about this incident – please call the Sheriff’s Office at 843-719-4414 or Crime Stoppers at 843-554-1111.”
