GOOSE CREEK, S.C.–According to Charleston attorney David Aylor, a jury recently found his client, former Goose Creek police officer James Ross Jr., not guilty of driving under the influence.
Shortly after his arrest in October 2014, Ross Jr, 47, resigned from the Goose Creek Police Department. He’d been with the department for nearly a decade.
“My client has maintained his innocence and in fact took the stand during his trial and told the jury his version of the facts. The jury briefly deliberated before returning the not guilty verdict,” said Aylor.
At the time of the incident, authorities say Ross was not on duty and was driving his personal vehicle in Charleston County. His attorney says Ross exercised his right and refused to participate in a field sobriety test when he was stopped at a safety checkpoint.
“My client has maintained his innocence and in fact took the stand during his trial and told the jury his version of the facts. The jury briefly deliberated before returning the not guilty verdict,” said Aylor.
At the time of the arrest, Ross was booked into the Al Cannon Detention Center. He was released from jail after posting $997 bail.
“I hope the media will do the right thing and be more careful in the future before trashing someone on TV or in print without getting all the facts,” said Ross. “Where do I go to get my reputation back after being a police officer for more than 23 years?”
