GOOSE CREEK, S.C.–To say people were excited to check out the new Dairy Queen in Goose Creek Wednesday was an understatement. On opening day, lines inside the restaurant stretched out the door.

“The restaurant was full the entire day. It was kind of crazy–but a good kind of crazy,” stated DQ owner, Brad Walker. “It went extremely well. Everybody is a little tired, though.”

According to Walker, although the restaurant didn’t officially open for business until 10:30 a.m., lots of people started lining up as early as 7 a.m. to take advantage of the restaurant’s cake special.

To celebrate the grand opening, the first 100 people to buy one of its cakes won a burger every week for a year at DQ.

“We served about 900 on opening day,” stated Walker. “We finished the drive thru at 11 p.m. and look forward to doing it all again today.”

About 75 employees currently work at the Goose Creek Dairy Queen location.

Walker says they are currently working on a second restaurant in West Ashley.

“We’re also looking at Summerville. We’re looking at Mount Pleasant. We plan to build several Dairy Queen in North Charleston,” Walker said.
