BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C.–While our neighbors to the north of us are coping with a massive blizzard that’s dumped more than three feet of snow in some states, in Berkeley County it was quite a different story on Saturday.
When the first snowflakes started to fall earlier that morning, it was like that feeling you used to get when you were a kid at Christmas time. It got some people super excited and left them hoping that “the white stuff” would continue to fall throughout the day.
“We have snow in Bonneau Beach!” said a happy Stephanie Lemmon Gibson via social media as the snow started to fall.
“It’s pretty, but I was hoping for more,” said Angela Radcliffe of Saint Stephen.
For much of Berkeley County, the temperature hovered around 38 degrees.
While the first signs of snow quickly melted away just as fast it got here, it brought out the humorous side in some Berkeley County homeowners.
“Six inches of snow in Moncks Corner!” Mark Seagraves wrote next to a picture he took that included a line of snow cleverly measured.
While some people refused to leave their house during the freezing temps, others found the weather
perfect to jog in.
Colt Roy with 3 House Photography caught one brave soul doing just that along Highway 52 in Moncks Corner.
As for Sunday, according to the National Weather Service it will be sunny with a high near 49 degrees. That night the low is expected to be around 31 degrees.
At least 17 people, from North Carolina to New York, have already died in the winter blizzard of 2016.
