Berkeley Middle College Student Accepted to Science and Engineering Summer Apprenticeship Program

O'Dhori BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C.–O’Dhori Prioleau, junior at Berkeley Middle College, was accepted into the Science and Engineering Summer Apprenticeship Program at SPAWAR. Typically, the program only accepts six to eight students each year.

“I am very thankful for this opportunity. The experience that I will gain from this program will be with me for the rest of my engineering career. I am thankful for my parents because they have been encouraging me from the beginning. I would like to thank Ms. Scoggins and Ms. Amerson for being my references and all the BMC staff who support me daily. I will be sure to take advantage of this opportunity, so that it may be a great asset to accomplishing future goals,” said Prioleau.

The Science and Engineering Summer Apprenticeship Program, offered by the American Society for Engineering Education, provides an opportunity for students to participate in research at a Department of Navy laboratory for eight weeks during the summer. The goal of the program is to encourage participating students to pursue science and engineering careers (www.seap.asee.org).

Principal of Berkeley Middle College, Claire Freeman, said, “In O’Dhori’s short time at the Middle College, she has distinguished herself as one of our top students. We are pleased and proud that she was been chosen to participate in the SPAWAR summer apprenticeship program and deeply appreciate the opportunities provided to our students through partnerships with SPAWAR.”
