GOOSE CREEK, S.C.–Goose Creek councilman Jerry Tekac is the latest council member who won’t be seeking re-election. He made the announcement Friday via social media.
“I have been proud to serve as a council member for Goose Creek, and it is truly an honor to represent the residents and businesses where I have called home for the past 18 years,” stated Tekac.
Tekac unsuccessfully ran for mayor in 2014–up against longtime mayor Michael Heitzler. He says his decision to not seek re-election comes after he says his employer asked him to become the Senior Executive for the Myrtle Beach market for NBSC.
“It was an offer that after having a number of discussions with my kids that I couldn’t pass up,” stated Tekac.
He isn’t the only council member who will not seek another term. Franklin Moore and John McCants have also chosen not to seek re-election.
However, there are several candidates hoping to take their spot. Kevin Condon, Aileen Lord and Darrell R. Williams, Brandon Cox and Greg Habib are all running for council.
Tekac has publicly announced his endorsement of Habib and Cox.
“The city is facing some very big decisions over the upcoming months, and I am very confident in these two that they well be excellent stewards for the city,” stated Tekac.
The election will take place on April 5th.
