BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C.–At 2:15 a.m. on Monday morning, authorities say Deputy Wade Worley was on patrol when he observed a sliver Chevrolet Tahoe equipped with blue LED lights activated with a car pulled over in the parking lot of the Sunoco gas station at Carnes Crossroads.
Deputy Worley stopped in to check on the stop to make sure that all was okay. A person later identified as Zackery Hoy Sivils, identified himself as a SLED agent and told the deputy that he had stopped the vehicle for a tag light violation.
Sivils was dressed in slacks with dress shoes and a sport coat on and was displaying a badge around his neck. As Sivils cleared the stop, he drove off on North Main Street towards College Park Road at a high rate of speed.
Believing that something was not right, Deputy Worley followed the silver Tahoe. The vehicle slowed for the intersection of College Park Road and North Main Street but then activated his blue lights and sped through the intersection. Deputy Worley then conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle.
Zackery Hoy Sivils, age 23, identified himself as a SLED agent to Deputy Worley. Sivils was found to be a licensed security officer with Hawkeye Security Services and not a SLED agent.
Sivils had been drinking alcohol and had a female with him in the vehicle. He was armed with a pistol, which he was wearing at the time of the stop.
Sivils was arrested for impersonating a law enforcement officer and is currently in the Hill-Finklea Detention Center awaiting a bond hearing.
Sivils vehicle is believed to be involved with other similar incidents. Authorities are asking for anyone who believes that they were stopped by Sivils to contact Crime Stoppers at 845-554-1111. Detectives with the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office are working with SLED on this case.
The vehicle is a silver 2008 Chevrolet Tahoe PPV (Police Pursuit Vehicle) with a black push bar on the front and a full complement of LED lights in the windows and grill.
