BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C.—According to Berkeley County Deputies, a man who stole from a homeowner’s property in Huger didn’t get very far—and he later fessed up to the crime.

On Thursday, deputies responded to United Drive in reference to a blue Ford Ranger stuck in a field. After arriving to the location, they found that the truck was also backed up to a trailer.

They say they spoke with a man, later identified as the victim, who stated that 25-year-old Christopher Griffin set foot on his property and attempted to steal his trailer valued at about $1,000.

“The victim stated that the subject did not succeed in the theft due to the truck and trailer becoming stuck in the mud,” read the incident report.

As deputies approached Griffin to talk about the incident, he reportedly told deputies that—quote— “I was trying to steal it.”

Deputies then placed Griffin in handcuffs and he was transported to the Hill Finklea Detention Center in Moncks Corner.
