A Goose Creek man is behind bars after deputies say he chatted online with someone he thought was a 14-year-old female. In reality, he was carrying on a conversation with a detective.
Milton Padin, 29, of Goose Creek was arrested Thursday in an undercover Internet sting conducted by the Charleston County Sheriff’s Office.
Investigators say Padin communicated electronically with the officer’s juvenile persona and sent sexually explicit messages.
When Padin traveled to a pre-arranged location to meet the persona on March 10, 2016, he was arrested by officers with the Charleston County Sheriff’s Office. Several electronic devices were seized for forensic examination.
Padin was charged with five (5) counts of Criminal Solicitation of a Minor (§16-15-342), a felony offense punishable by up to ten (10) years imprisonment, and one (1) count of Attempted Criminal Sexual Conduct with a Minor second degree, (§16-3-655(B)), a felony punishable by up to twenty (20) years in prison and Sex Offender Registry status.
The case will be prosecuted by the Attorney General’s Office.
Attorney General Wilson stressed all defendants are presumed innocent unless and until they are proven guilty in a court of law.
