BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C.–Berkeley County Supervisor Bill Peagler announced Wednesday that the groundbreaking ceremony of the Nexton Parkway Interchange, also known as the Sheep Island Interchange, will be held on Monday, March 21st at 11:00 AM at the end of Nexton Parkway.
“After nearly a decade of waiting on this project, we are happy to announce that a ground breaking ceremony for the new interchange will be held next week,” said Peagler. “The project will improve the quality of life for Berkeley County residents, and the start of construction highlights the county’s strong commitment to improving infrastructure for residents and businesses alike.”
Monday’s event will include remarks by Peagler, South Carolina State Senator Larry Grooms – Chairman of the Senate Transportation Committee, Robby Robbins – SCDOT Commissioner for the 1st Congressional District, and Reid Banks of Banks Construction – the contractor for the project.
The Sheep Island Interchange project is expected to be completed by the summer of 2018 and cost roughly $80 million.
