Below, we recently asked Habib the following questions:

1. Why are you seeking election?
I have spent last 19 years raising two very active boys. Baseball, football, soccer and bike racing dominated most of my time. I am thankful to have two wonderful young men as sons. As my youngest goes off to college, I am afforded the opportunity to serve my community in a positive way. My life’s experiences in business, education and non profit volunteerism, have prepared me to serve on Goose Creek City Council. I am seeking election to provide the leadership that ensures Goose Creek reaches its full potential.

2. What is your educational background?
B.A. Political Science, University of South Carolina 1990
M.Ed Higher Education Administration, University of South Carolina 1993

3. What is your current profession?
General Manager, Charleston Steel and Metal Co

4. Family?
Spouse Ellen, two sons Phillip, a Sophomore at Wofford, and Coleman, a Senior at Stratford High School

5. What changes would you like to bring to Goose Creek?
Goose Creek is growing. Managing that growth is the most important task City Council faces in the coming years. We must be proactive in our approach, anticipating the needs of the citizens, planning to meet them, and communicating with the people who live here. There will be greater demand for public services and recreation. Lifelong, inclusive recreational activities are integral to our quality of life in Goose Creek. And, there will be great opportunity for economic development. Our citizens should be able to meet their retail and service needs from vendors in their own town. The City must lead the conversation to ensure commercial investment in the city is in keeping with our values and, not only preserves green space, but enhances the city as a whole.

6. Why should voters vote for you over the other candidates?
Anyone willing to present themselves to the voters has my respect and admiration. All five candidates are high quality people. City Council needs independent thinkers willing to ask the questions no one has asked before. In my business, we are always self evaluating in order to find a more efficient way, to save money, and to serve our customers better. We know high level communication with our customers goes a long way to ensure a high level of service. And, we know leaders lead by doing. I will bring these experiences to City Council and the City of Goose Creek.
